DIY: Hi-Lo Necklace

Layering necklaces has been one of the major jewelry styling trends lately, and one of it's off-shoots have been Hi-Lo necklaces. The wonderful thing about Hi-Lo necklaces is that instead of having to coordinate all of your necklaces to make a complete look and then having them inevitably tangle, you can just wear a Hi-Lo necklace and bypass both problems!

There are infinite ways you can make a Hi-Lo necklace and I am simply offering two options. I would love to see your take on them!
For this DIY, you will need:

  • Pliers
  • A ruler
  • Assorted beads/charms
  • Chain
  • Clasps
  • Jump rings
  • Crimp beads
  • Wire
  • Beading wire
1.
Begin by deciding how you want your necklace to look. Do you want to use charms or just have two beaded sections?

2.

If you are using beading wire, cut out a piece of the wire about 4 inches longer than how long you want your section to be. String on your crimp bead and jump ring. Pass the wire through the jump ring and crimp bead. Press on the crimp bead with your pliers to secure.
If you are using wire, cut out about 2 inches longer than how long you want your beaded section to be. Make a loop on one side using your pliers

3.

String on your beads and repeat the instructions in step 2 on the other side of the wire to complete the beaded section. If you are using beading wire, you will have to string the excess string through some of the beads to secure it.

4.

Attach one of your beaded portions to your chain. My necklace was about 20 inches long. If you want, you can have one portion be far longer than the other!

5.
In this necklace, the charm was added with a jump ring in the middle of the chain length

Attach your second section to your necklace with either wire or a jump ring.

And you are done!
